LG have issued an advisory safety notice about their 8KG 6 Motion Direct drive washing machines. There is a risk of electric shock under certain circumstances. I mentioned it a while back on Facebook but here is a proper article.
What is happening?
Water can in some circumstances leak onto the chrome decal (which I understand to be a badge or logo). This can cause it to become live and give an electric shock. LG use the phrase, “mild electric shock”. They also state that affected washing machines are safe to use. I’m not sure how they can say that only mild electric shocks can be given unless it is not full voltage due to the source of the electricity being stepped down to lower voltages around the control panel.
Which models are affected?

What to do
If it’s still available, telephone the LG customer helpline on 0344 847 5454 (Monday – Saturday, 9am-6pm). Please note that manufacturers often only set up a helpline for a short period of time so if this number is no longer working please let me know. You need to contact LG from their website instead.
For some reason I can’t see any mention of this safety notice on LG’s website, which is very disappointing.
