Fire Risk
This is another appliance safety notice, this time for washing machines. From what I can see these washing machines were sold exclusively by Argos as they are the only ones referenced in the product safety notice. There is apparently a potential fire risk caused by defective electronic component in the control panel which may overheat.

According to Argos, in certain circumstances “This can lead to localised damage and present a risk of fire”.

Bush washing machine models affected

  • BUSH WM 1270TVE (White) and BUSH WM 1270TVEME (Silver)
  • BUSH DIHWD1270TVE (White) and BUSH DIHWD1270TVEME (Silver)
  • BUSH WM1470TVE (White) and BUSH WM1470TVEME (Silver)
  • BUSH DIHWD1470TVE (White) and BUSH DIHWD1470TVEME (Silver)

HAIER washing machine models affected

  • HAIER HWD1470TVE (White) and HAIER HWD1470TVEME (Silver)
  • HAIER HWD1270TVE (White) and HAIER HWD1270TVEME (Silver)
  • HAIER 1470TVE (White) and HAIER 1470TVEME (Silver)

If you have an affected appliance ring this number 0800 888 6124 or email modifications@0800repair.com

we got a letter saying the haier washing machine was at risk and may set on fire and to phone a number to have a new part fitted which we did. after the part was fitted we put the washing machine on and it set on fire. we got the engineer back and he said it was nothing to do with the part he fitted it was just a coincidence that the moter has gone and we have to pay for it. we would like to warn other people about this. luckily we can afford a new washer but what about the people that dont have much money.

Hello Carol. I can see this is too much of a coincidence for you, but to be fair such coincidences do actually happen occasionally. The fire risk on this washing machine is in the front control panel so if it was the same part the fire should have started at the front of the machine on the control panel.

If your motor burned-out you would probably get smoke coming from round the back and although it’s impossible to know if they are connected they are definitely completely different parts.

In relation to this Safety notice the date of purchase shouldn’t be needed. If you contact them using the information in the article they can tell exactly how old it is from the serial number and there should be no charge.

I received notification about faulty washing machine and identified that I have one of the affected models contacted you as told on the letter on the 18th July 2015 an arranged date for 17th August .was arranged to have replacement part fitted.Got a phone call cancelling day before as part out of stock but an engineer would visit when part was available. Here we are 6 months later and no still have not heard anything. Surely it doesn’t take that log to replenish stock. When will I get my machine fixed ?

Mrs E Hawkins, sorry but you are contacting the wrong person. My article publicises the Haier and Bush washing machine Safety Notice and gives the telephone number and email address of the people to contact if affected.

Hi I have a haier hwd1470tve washing machine. Which has recently went on fire from the front control panel. I purchased this from argos, unsure of when? I have no recollection of ever receiving a warning letter. I have tried several times to speak to argos and haier regarding a replacement or refund but keep being passed to different departments and told someone will call me back. Do you have any other suggestions on how to deal with this.

Hello Karen. Have you rung the phone number or emailed the address in my article? If they are still working (hopefully) they are the only points of contact I would use.
