I am getting reports that the plastic water container inside the door of Hoover or Candy condenser tumble dryers often needs replacing. Fortunately they are very easy to fit, though you wouldn’t expect that anything would go wrong with one in the first place.
What is going wrong?
Sometimes cracks have appeared somewhere on the container. Other’s say that the plastic had split at the bottom, or that it just started leaking. This part fits right inside the door and collects all the condensed water from the drying process. It is subject to constant heating up and cooling down, which could be why they can crack or become stressed.

My Hoover tumble dryer water tank drips water from a small hole in bottom sought looks like it should have a plug it’s not a crack hasn’t been dropped it round hole
Hello Slade. I’m not familiar with these tanks but if it is a proper round hole then it must be there by design. A perfectly rounded hole can’t just appear on its own. But it is also strange that you have never noticed it before. The only thing I can suggest is searching Ransom Spares to see if you can find your water tank and see if there is any sign of a bung for it. There is a possibility that the bung isn’t sold separately and comes with a new tank. Other than that you would have to try and find something to fit or contact Hoover about it.
Hello – we have a Hoover T/dryer – replacement water containers last a few days – have resorted to reinforcing the latest one with fibreglass tape and resin – lasted months but now about to be replaced – cracks all over and never dropped – rubbish design
First replacement was because it had been dropped but we’ve been very careful since but have needed to replace container several times now due to cracks appearing. We clean filter every use and I clean condenser regularly, it also shows issues with heat, the thin rectangular end pieces causing difficult in pushing back in due to buckling.
My new essentials condenser tumble dryer is drying clothes but I’m not getting any water in the container on the door is this right will I not see any water for the first few drys?
No water on the floor so not sure where it’s going it’s not plumbed into the drain either.
Hello Veronica. Maybe not if the laundry was the type that doesn’t hold much water. But if it was sheets or towels, I’d expect water for sure. Keep an eye on it and if no water appears after drying several loads – especially cottons – I’d get in touch with the manufacturer.
Thanks for this. My spin on washing machine is a 1600 so washing does come out quite dry, will keep an eye on it though.

The water in our Hoover condenser tumble dryer has always been clear. Tonight whilst drying towels the water is a milky white colour, would there be any reason for this?
Hello Kerry. The only thing I can think of is that the laundry wasn’t rinsed very well. The water that collects inside the door container just comes from the laundry. I could be wrong but, I can’t think of anything on a tumble dryer that could introduce something like this.
Can u still work a clothes dryer without the plastic container.
Hello Joanne. The plastic container collects the water, so water will constantly run out of the hose or connector that the container connects to. Water will run either back into the tumble dryer drum or all over the floor.
I have had 3 replacement door units and can guarantee none have been dropped, I even wait until the water is cool to empty it now. It does appear to be a design flaw imho.
