Looking for a local tradesman? Which? Local Really Works
The best way to find a recommended reputable local appliance repairman is to use Which? Local – Trusted Traders which is free for Which? members (Get your Which? offer). It really works because as a Which? affiliate and member I’ve used it several times myself.
Lots of companies offer to find a quality tradesman for us. But most of them need to charge tradesmen to be members – so they only recommend those that pay. The stricter they are on who they promote the less money they collect. They have to strike the right balance between recommending only good quality tradesmen and not having so high standards that they hardly have any to recommend. I’m sure many do a good job, but one of the unique things about the Which? Local tradesman recommendations is that all the traders have been recommended by fellow Which? members. The traders don’t pay to be recommended. They can’t even ask to be listed. They can only be listed if a Which? member recommends them and writes a review.
All recommendations are carefully moderated to guard against false ones and only Which? members can recommend. It’s safe to say most members are pretty discerning people and if they have used a tradesman and were impressed it’s a good recommendation to have. Nothing is infallible but it seems to work very well and is just one of the benefits of being a member.
Using Which? Local
Which? don’t try to control your contact with the traders. They don’t receive any money from the tradesmen so they are only interested in making sure the service works and members can find and recommend repairmen. There’s a list of every type of tradesman you can think of including appliance repairs, and a big Google map plus a post code search. It’s very easy to use and once you find someone you get links to their web site, email addresses and telephone numbers so you can simply contact them and see if they can help. Don’t forget to tell them you found them through a review on Which? Local.
More benefits for Which? members
I’ve personally used Which? Local to find a plumber, someone to install a ventilator fan in my garage, a roofer and an electrician – all of which have been very good. The beauty is that when you tell them you’ve found reviews of them on Which? Local they have a great incentive to make sure you are very happy because you may write a review about them. There’s an impressive array of benefits to being a Which? member and Which? Local is just one of them. I’ve been a member and affiliate since 2005.
