I write a lot about appliance safety, but I’ve always been surprised and disappointed at how few of my articles warning about fire risks in appliances get shared. It’s not a pleasant thing to think about, but it’s empowering to pro-actively cut down risks and it’s good to potentially help others by sharing warnings. Spending a little time and learning from other people’s experiences (see below) and taking notice of a few easy tips can reduce risks and genuinely save lives.
A list of every article I've written filed under dishwashers, including all its sub categories. To find more articles use the "dishwashers" link in the main navigation.
NOTE: More dishwasher articles are filed under other categories and sub categories if they focus on buying or repairing them for example.
A dishwasher not cleaning dishes properly can have various causes. It’s rarely anything serious. If it’s a relatively new dishwasher to you and has never performed well make sure you are using an appropriate wash cycle for the level of soiling. There aren’t usually many wash cycles to choose from on a dishwasher but you can still get big differences in temperatures, wash intensity and wash results. This article is for when the dishwasher appears to run OK and finishes in normal time, but wash results are disappointing.
Believe it or not, a dishwasher making whistling noise could have an unexpected cause. According to a dishwasher manual I’m just reading, one of the “malfunctions” it advises on is if, “there is a whistling noise during washing”. The advice is that this is not a cause for concern, but to try using a different brand of detergent.
This continues my articles on error codes for dishwashers bought from John Lewis (example model number JLBIDW1200) which are manufactured by NEFF. These error codes may well be used on many other Neff branded dishwashers too as it’s very unlikely the appliances are fundamentally different. If “,30” appears in the display (red LED) it means that the anti flood device has activated.
Dishwashers bought from John Lewis (model number JLBIDW1200) which are manufactured by NEFF, display error codes in the digital display. If 20 appears in the display (red LED) it means there is a problem with draining the water. This should however be fairly obvious without an error code as the dishwasher should be full of water. It is possible that it’s only partially drained out the water though, so check under the main pull out filter in the base just under the lower spray arm.
