Tumble dryer with “the worlds lowest energy consumption” – WT46W560GB

I’ve just seen a full page advert for a Siemens tumble dryer announcing that their model WT46W560GB “has the lowest energy consumption in the world”. It might also be a contender for the longest model number for a dryer in the world too – what’s all that about?

Seriously though, Siemens are a respected make and they are in the quality range of the market in the UK. It’s not exactly cheap, but depending on where you look you may find quite a big price difference.

It does have a very large 8Kg drum and a 5 year parts & labour guarantee so its high price is only to be expected. It’s worth consideration if you do a lot of tumble drying (especially if you have an 8Kg drum capacity washing machine) and if you are very keen on reducing energy usage and carbon footprint impact.

we get very low cost hot waterb from a log burner. We also use an electric tumble dryer which of course uses a large amount of power to dry the clothes. Does anyone offer a tumble drier where the heat is supplied by hot water rather than electricity?

hi Colin: I expect that’s unlikely to be honest.

Hello Colin have you looked at getting a gas dryer?

Hello Dave, problem is that we have no mains gas in our village, but even if we did have, I would still have to buy the gas. The key is that I get very cheap hot water and I might just make a radiator heated drying cupboard instead. Ideally I need a tumble drier that would suck in warm air through a heat exchanger heated by my hot water, I know this doesn’t exist !
