Servis UK gone into liquidation. How do you get your appliance repaired under guarantee?

Unfortunately Servis UK went into liquidation recently. This means all their previous after sales arrangements have broken down. At the time of writing this article there is no service network in force and many engineers still haven’t been paid for work they carried out before they went bust. If you are stuck with a Servis washing machine or any other service appliance that has broken down under warranty your only redress at the moment is to contact the people you bought it from. They should know what to do. The situation is that the seller is responsible under UK consumer law so they need to either arrange for it to be repaired, or replace it.

basically if you have been ripped off by servis then get ready to be ripped off by domestic and general when you try to have your machine repaired under the 5 year parts gaurentee ( which was only reason i bought a servis machine ) using the very expensive phone numbers supplied with my machine.
Domestic and General will charge you£169.90 to repair and 1 year gaurentee on the product meaning after less than 18 months my washing machine will have cost me a total of nearly £600!!!!!!!!!
the 5 year parts gaurentee should be honoured by law and if not the directors of the parent company and all associated partners should be held financially responsible to their customers
Domestic and General are basically holding servis owners to ransom as at no point when i activated my gaurentee by registering by phone was i informed my details were only being used to try to upsell me an extended warranty and the 5 year parts gaurentee is nothing to do with the company phone number stuck to the front of the machine.

IM IN NO DOUBT THAT ALL THE LARGE RETAIL OUTLETS ARE PROBALY STILL SELLING THE SERVIS PRODUCTS TO THE UNSUSPECTING PUBLIC, PROBALY AT DISCOUNTED RATES TO THOSE WHO CAN AFFORD UNRELIABLITY THE MOST

DOMESTIC & GENERAL……. UNSYMPATHETIC CONDESENDING PATRONISING UNHELPFUL AND TAKING ADVANTAGE OF SITUATIONS BEYOND MOST PEOPLES CONTROL. NO DOUBT THEY HAVE MADE A LOT OF PROFIT ON THE BACK OF SERVIS APPLIANCES SO WOULD RECOMMEND A SOLOUTION TO THE PROBLEM.
AGREE TO HAVE D&G REPAIR AT £16.90 A MONTH GET YOUR APPLIANCE REPAIRED AND THEN CANCEL THE DIRECT DEBIT MANDATE BEFORE THEY CAN TAKE ANY PAYMENTS, THEN REFER ALL CORESPONDENCE THEY SEND YOU TO EITHER THE ADMINISTRATORS OR RETURN TO SENDER STATING 5 YEAR PARTS GAURENTEE IS YOUR PROBLEM
OR GO GO TO LOCAL SMALL SECONDHAND DOMESTIC APPLIANCE RETAILER AND ASK THE TO REPAIR IT OR FOR SAME MONEY BUY 1 FROM THEM AT LEAST THEN YOU CAN SPEAK DIRECTLY TO THIER FACE IF IT BREAKS DOWN

This is a disgusting situation and I am in the same boat.
Just who is responsible for honouring the guarantee when the garantor goes into liqidation?
It is obvious that a percentage of the sales price is used to honour this guarantee.
What recourse has the purchaser in thes circumstances.
DO GUARANTEES MEAN ANYTHING.
Is there anyone out there who can help?

If you take out the extended warranty and have the machine repaired and then cancel it you are basically obtaining goods by deception also all that will happemn will be the company that repairs the machine wont be paid so its not d&g who loses but the repairer.
when both mfi and servis collapsed i lost £16500.00 and 70% of my calls so all you would do would be to cripple the small companies again as the insurers dont tend to use big companies for repairs.

The 5 years parts warranty finished when servis collapsed so its only the years warranty that the retailer has to pay for.

If the retailer sold the machine with a “free” 5 year parts warranty they may be liable for longer than the 1st year. It’s all very grey. Logically I would say it’s not the retailers fault if the manufacturer goes bust so why should they be penalised? Unfortunately the government has chosen to make retailers responsible to protect the customer (as it’s not their fault either). They haven’t bothered to protect the retailer – which I think is wrong.

Regarding the manufacturers guarantee, my Which? contact says,

“the guarantee is in practice lost when the company goes out of business. It’s worth just double checking that the warranty wasn’t underwritten by someone else.

If anyone has paid for an extended warranty, then again they should look at who is actually providing the cover and put any claim to them.”

I have managed to get a number for items under guarantee from MFI.
The number you need to call is ; 01912561001

Thanks for that Laura. I think that’s the telephone number for Servis appliances bought from MFI under an extended warranty.

I have a Servis Easilogic 1300 washer dryer and the board has gone. Been told that I can get a new board no problem but that the board needs to be programmed by a special lap top (apparently done at Servis). Am told that my machine, which is otherwise OK, is defunct if cannot get board programmed. Can anyone help with this, please or it’s the cost of another washing machine for us!

Lorraine. To be honest, with Servis washing machines you’d probably find it nearly as expensive to have a new board fitted than it would be to replace it. It’s one of the major problems with such budget appliances because their spare parts are often outrageously expensive.

i brought a servis washing machine with a one year cover, after the one year had past,my machine began to breakdown on several occassions, firstly i needed a new door lock,a new hinge, then months past and it was a new rubber piece around the drum, then to top it off i need a new thermistac, now i have spent to much money on this washing machine,i must have paid for it twice over, two days ago i found myself with the machine that has now died,it smokes another failure, the saddest thing about this all,is that my washing machine is only 3 years old,how very dissappointed i am ..

Jackie, you may have a claim from the retailer that the washing machine has not lasted a reasonable time and or was not of reasonable quality depending on how it’s been used. You should carefully read all this article and comments EU 2 year guarantee. Sale of Goods Act gives us 6 years to claim for faulty appliances
