Quick wash options aren’t quick enough – let’s set the time ourselves

In a recent blog entry I complained about how modern washing machines take too long to wash and explained the reasons why ( Customers want much faster washes ). I also complained that alot of “quick washes” have become only relatively quick, and they are actually long washes as opposed to very long washes these days.

I’ve since come across an Electrolux advert in a trade magazine that boasts about their new “Time manager washing machine”. The ad is not for public consumption at the moment, but is telling the trade that they’ll soon be spending a lot of money promoting this new washing machine.

The advert shows an Electrolux washing machine with a winder on the side emulating a wrist watch. The slogan is, “We were thinking – you should set the time your wash takes, not the machine.” I must admit I like that statement, and it looks like a potential answer to the frustrations I wrote about.

We need to be careful in that if you control the time your washing machine takes to wash then you can inevitably interfere with the washing machine’s wash results, which are usually tightly controlled. However, to be able to set a much shorter (specific) wash time, in the full knowledge of the potential compromise in wash results is exactly what I called for in my article. Although caution is needed not to overuse the feature it’s perfectly valid to cut down the time under certain circumstances even if it cuts down the wash efficiency a little. As Electrolux make pretty good washing machines.
