New Miele extra warranty promotions on appliances

I’ve just been notified of the latest Miele extra warranty promotions for spring and summer 2008. Many people are puzzled by Miele’s constant changing of the length of warranties on their white goods appliances. One month a particular model can have a 10 year warranty but then can be cut to only 5 years later.

Miele don’t really go in for price cutting. This is very much in line with virtually any renowned quality product anywhere. A high quality product just doesn’t tend to get its price cut, which undermines its status as one of the best in the market. I can understand this position. These products don’t sell because they are cheap, they sell (to a much smaller market) because they are great, or because they are the best.

Therefore, if such a company wants to promote certain range or model, the best way to do it is to add extra value. With Miele this is done by offering extra warranties which get moved around to suit their promotional requirements.

John Lewis don’t seem to be aware of this, as they are offering extended warranties for £129. It is unusual for them as they seem to be one of the few sites that highlight the extended manufacturers warranties.
