Error codes aren’t always obvious

There is detailed information about error codes and why they aren’t commonly available or published for all to see in this article Appliance Error codes

Whilst on the subject of error codes it’s worth pointing out that not all appliances display a readable error code such as “E1″ or “A23″. Many more basic models not fitted with LCD displays will often indicate an error code by lighting up a certain sequence of option lights or by flashing a certain LED a set number of times in a repeating sequence.

Count the number of flashes or make a note of the exact LEDs that are lit and report this information to the engineer who may be able to bring the right parts.

NOTE: Don’t just report (for example) that the economy light and extra rinse light are lit. Also report which number the lights are. For example, if there are 4 option lights side by side or one above the other, report that (for example) the first and third lights are lit as well as the names. This is because some error code charts use the names of the options but others only use numers eg LED 1, LED 2 etc.

Examples:

Washing machine stops with lights flashing
Program selector knob (dial) clicks round continuously
