I have advice in several places saying soda crystals are good at dissolving grease and can be used to clean out a gunged up washing machine. At the time of looking into soda crystals I remember seeing on the back of the packet that they should not be used on aluminium. I instantly thought about the alloy drum spiders inside washing machines and wondered whether soda crystals could cause any damage.

Someone asked me this question the other day, “can you tell me why after my washing cycle has finished there is always water left in the conditioner compartment?”
As it happens I could point them to Washerhelp where I’ve answered this question already only I’d phrased the question differently which may have made it harder to find – The fabric conditioner / rinse aid compartment is always full of water

Potential downsides to buying Miele washing machines and appliances
I’ve long since been a fan of the build quality of Miele washing machines and have written extensively about them as well as personally recommending them. My own washing machine is a Miele and it’s great. They are one of the best washing machines available regarding build quality and design. They are designed to last at least 20 years and should last much longer than cheaper washing machines. Unfortunately though, the cost of some parts and lack of repairer competition means certain repairs can be so expensive that some are falling victim to the same “beyond economic repair” issue that’s all too common amongst much cheaper washing machines.
