Q: I bought a second hand washing machine from ebay and was told it was approximately 2 years old and came with a 5 year guarantee. The lady selling it was very genuine and said the manufacturer told her the guarantee was transferable.

“My LG washing machine is not taking on enough water for a satisfactory wash, there is only a very small pool of water in the bottom of the drum. When I phoned customer services they stated there should be more water than this (at least a water level half way up the door). They suggested that my water pressure must be to low to feed the machine and that I get the water board out to put it up.
There’s been a lot of talk about a new EU directive proposing to give everyone a 2 year guarantee on all products. Many articles are even saying this new right is being suppressed in the UK and consumers are being deceived by retailers. The truth is that it is not the extension to the manufacturer’s 12 month parts and labour guarantee that some seem to believe it is. It isn’t a new law giving us 2 year guarantees instead of 1 year.
