30 tons of laundry washed & dried live on the Internet

I’ve long been impressed by Miele products, in particular their amazing washing machines ( Miele washing machines - build quality review ) it’s no surprise to read that Miele carried out a publicity stunt - and I use that phrase with no derogatory intentions and with the following (Wikipedia) definition in mind, “a publicity stunt is a planned event designed to attract the public’s attention to the promoters or their causes”.

Nearly 50,000 people reportedly visited Miele’s German web site as it broadcast live images of a Miele washing machine and a Miele tumble dryer running side by side for 14 months from their test laboratory. From July 2005 to August 2006, both machines ran non stop for 10,000 hours without a single problem. This equates to 20 years use for the washing machine and 26 years use for the tumble dryer. 30 tons of laundry in total were washed and dried.

I’m forced to assume that the reason 30 tons of laundry was required was to emphasise the amount of washing processed in order to impress further (as if the endurance test wasn’t impressive enough). 30 tons of washing is reported to be the equivalent of a stack of towels that would fill a room 10 metres long and 4 metres high.

Personally I would have been more impressed with how high the stack of towels would have gone, or how many bare bottoms in a shower could have been towel-whipped.
