Is it possible to use a hot & cold fill washing machine with just a cold supply?

You might move house and find the plumbing in the new house only has a cold water supply but your washing machine is a hot and cold fill washing machine. One option is to have a hot supply plumbed in but as virtually all modern washing machines are cold fill now it may be better to use a y-piece to convert your hot and cold washer to use only a cold water supply.

Icing up in fridge or freezer

One cause of icing up in a fridge or freezer can be a poorly fitting or damaged door seal. If the door seal becomes distorted the seal will start to allow warm moist air into the freezer or fridge. This will cause snowy ice to deposit around the point of entry which will eventually cause the compartment to completely ice up.

Can you extend a tumble dryer vent hose?

Ideally a vent hose should be as short as possible. If you want to extend the length of a vent hose on a vented tumble dryer you should be aware that vent hoses are designed to be a specific length by the manufacturer. This length is likely to be the maximum length that the dryer can be vented without potential problems. It will be technically possible to somehow connect two vent hoses together or otherwise extend its length but the problem is, will the dryer be able to pump the hot moist air right to the end of the extended hose? If it can’t, the dryer could at best be inefficient and at worst overheat.
