I’ve had an enquiry from someone who says their washing machine is not blocked, the pump runs, but it still won’t drain the water out and they are puzzled as it doesn’t make sense. I’ve added a new section to my washing machine pump faults called
Pump has no blockages, filter is clear and it runs but it still won’t drain water

Hi, my washing machine won’t drain the water, the same way as mention here in your blog. I have check every hose and nothing is blocking. In other words, I have tear the machine apart :). I bought a new pump and it behave the same way. Let me give more info:
The pump is rattling, noisy, and won’t drain the water (even my new pump). Like it can’t make pressure to pump water up. Then I tested to hold my finger in the hole at the end of drain hose and I felt it start build up pressure. Suddenly the water come in full speed. I tested to blow air in the drain hose while the pump run, and then the rattle /noise was change to normal sound, pressure came, and the water drained normal. I start the machine again, fill it with water and try drain it once more. The same happened, I had to blow to get the pressure.
I tried another way, to put water back in drain hose and back to the pump while the pump run and was rattling/noisy. It work! The pump start run without noise and a normal “swish” sound appear while it start pump on full speed (normal). What can this be? I have change the pump, it’s not the original but the same happening with my old original pump. Is it any hose or inlet who make vacuum/pressure in this machine who need to be clean or change?
Yes I puzzle too as it not make sense for me.
I have an Elto EM 110. It is 15 y.o. and haven’t been used the last 2 years.I have already clean all hose from tub to the filter (who is in front), to the pump (who is at the back) to the last drain hose who lead to the sink. Is it any hose/inlet who make vacuum/pressure who can be clogged?
Hi Frank: Read the number 2 possible explanation for this problem in the article I link to above (Pump has no blockages, filter is clear and it runs but it still wont drain water). It sounds like you may have a blockage inside the drain hose.
