Washing machine less than 59.5 cm wide

I get regular emails from people having problems finding a washing machine that will fit in their kitchen space. The European standard size for a kitchen appliance is 600 mm (or 60 cm). In the past some manufacturers made washing machines that were only about 58.5 cm but these manufacturers now produce washing machines that are 59.5 cm wide.

Unfortunately almost every freestanding washing machine is now either 59.5 cm or 60 cm wide. Top loading washing machines are slimmer, but of course if under a worktop they would have to be pulled out in order to use them. There are also a few small washing machines that are quite a lot thinner but these have very small drums and are not suitable for most people. One for example only has a 3 kg drum.

The only thing I can suggest is there are some links here where Kelkoo list washing machines by width. If anyone finds a washing machine thinner than 59.5 cm please let us all know.
