I recently commented on a new washing machine from Electrolux called the time manager washing machine. I was attracted to the advertisement because one of its features is the ability to tell the washing machine how long it should take to wash rather than the other way round. I had been complaining that many washing machines take too long to wash these days – Let’s set the time ourselves
Electrolux have a reputation for making good washing machines. This one also has a very large 7 kg drum and I know from experience that a 7 kg drum washing machine can comfortably wash a king-sized quilt.
Many washing machines have a time saver button where you can reduce the time of some cycles. So are Electrolux just maybe advertsing this feature loudly as they have realised what a lot of people now want from their washing machines?
Thanks for your comment. I know what you mean, you have to watch out for crafty marketing and I’m always on guard for it myself too. The thing that is different about the Time Saver washing machine is that the user is able to decide the time, whereas although other washing machines have quick wash options the time for these are set by the manufacturer and only available for certain washes.
What I called for in my original article was the ability to consciously decide to wash quicker on a main wash even if it meant the wash wasn’t necessarily an “A” performance wash because either you simply didn’t have time to wait or because you knew the quicker wash would be perfectly adequate. If I hadn’t called for it only a week or so before discovering Electrolux had done it I would have thought they’d stolen the idea from me ;-)

“Since the introduction of energy labels washing machine programmes have been extended to achieve the highest “A” grade wash performance. Sometimes this long programme time is not necessary as generally the clothes we wash these days are not very dirty. There are a number of ways the customer can shorten their wash times and still get a good wash result.
Most machines have a quick wash programme and this is generally a 30 minute programme at 30 degrees and has really been designed for smaller, lightly soiled loads. However, a more effective approach is available on machines with a quick or time saver option. This facility reduces programme times by up to 50% and gives the consumer the flexibility to use different temperatures for different fabric types and levels of soiling
The most flexible timesaver available an option for consumers to control their own program time, so making their wash time fit with their life rather than their life fit with the wash time. All of the models in the new Electrolux Time Manager washing machine range, both free standing and built in, provide the customer with the flexibility of being able to select their preferred program time. This means the consumer can wash a cotton load in as little as 45 minutes and synthetics in an amazing 20 minutes! This really puts consumers in control of their laundry time.”
you have to also be careful which machine dose stand up to it’s quickwash time, found many manufacturers actually lie about the times in which the quickwash cycle can be compleated (this is without a load of washing actually being washed, or balanceing included) infact the only machine ive ever come across true to its quickwash time, is the samsung diamond washing machine i have now which claims 3kg at 30′c in 29mins.
In fact with no laundry in it will take 26mins, and with, the only variy factor is how long it takes to balnce the load. hotpoint are and include indesit are terrable at being anywhere near thier quickwash times, the fast wash 60′c in 60 will be done in 60mins, but as for fast wash 30′c in 30mins, well no load took 36mins, and with any form of load in took over 40mins, 10mins more than acclaimed, even AEG’s refresh 20min, will take 6 or 7 mins excludeing balanceing time, longer than normal.
And as for electrolux time manager well synthetics 40′c super quick will take 37mins, synthetics 30′c super quick will take 20mins and synthetics cold super quick will take 28min????? you just know that synthetics 30′c super quick in 20mins is just not possible. i really want a time manger just to find out. actually that’s a lie, i actually wanted a time manager befor the current samsung, though just as i was ordering the time manager, they stoped production about a week befor, so ended up with a £500 samsung insted of a £500 time manager
