Hoover error code E1

This is an old one, relevant to the old Hoover New Wave washing machines.

E1 = timed out on either fill, heat or draining. This is a typically ambiguous and confusing error code in that it is shared by 3 totally separate and unconnected types of fault instead of having a separate error code for each fault.

You need to watch the washing machine to see when it aborts to get an idea which of the three areas to look at.

  • If the washing machine aborts at the beginning of the program, or whilst trying to fill for rinsing then it may have timed out on fill – ( Washing machine won’t fill with water (or no water goes into washing machine) )
  • If it aborts during the wash, once it’s filled successfully with water and before the rinse section it’s probably timed out on heat. In my experience this was often after 15 – 20 minutes washing – ( Could be a faulty connection on the heater or an open circuit heating element )
  • If it aborts and shows the error code E1 just after the wash has finished at the section when it should pump out the water prior to moving onto the rinsing section – or during rinsing when it’s already successfully filled with cold water but is trying to drain the water out then it may have a draining error and has timed out on draining. ( Washing machine won’t drain water )
