I’m always keen to write about appliance safety, and publish any manufacturer safety notices I find which affects any of our white goods appliances. Sadly there are far too many. Recently I added a Bosh dishwasher fire risk safety notice and I’ve just discovered that a couple from Norfolk have suffered the very sad loss of their pet dogs.

What is an aqua stop hose and do you have to use it?

 The words aqua, and stop, are used by a variety of companies covering different products. They all try to “stop” damage from leaking water in various situations. So-called “aqua stop” systems in appliances can combine more than one leak detection system including float switch detectors in the base of the appliance.

Candy Trio safety notice: Fire risk

There is currently a safety notice on the candy Trio combined dishwasher, hob and oven. Candy has warned that certain combined dishwasher, oven and hob appliances in its Trio range may pose a fire risk.

In an official safety warning the company says: ‘Although the risk is very small, we have become aware and are concerned that an extremely low probability exists of overheating of a wiring harness which could, in rare cases, result in fire’.

Can you connect a dishwasher to the hot water supply?

 Comments from another article have ventured into the subject of whether you can connect a dishwasher to the hot water instead of cold. This doesn’t appear to be a clear-cut yes or no answer and there is conflicting advice even from dishwasher manufacturers with some claiming it’s more economical, and others saying it’s better to run a dishwasher using cold water.
